- Force that acts radially inwards on an object
- moving in a curved path. For example, with a
- weight whirled in a circle at the end of a
- length of string, the centripetal force is
- the tension in the string. For an object of
- mass m moving with a velocity v in a circle
- of radius r, the centripetal force F equals
- mv^2/r (inwards). The reaction to this force
- is the centrifugal force.
